We run energy-filled, fun and upbeat weekly indoor fitness courses for children, from little babies right up to kids about to start secondary school. We want to change the way that they get active. Our emphasis is on participation and having a good time. We offer an alternative to traditional sports like GAA, rugby and soccer. Children get to experience both group and individual activities, including dance, athletics and ball games, enabling them to discover new hobbies that match their interests and skills. We also make special provisions for those with disabilities and run standalone courses to meet their needs.
It is our mission to establish a “family club” ethos within everything we do. We’re passionate about fitness and getting children of all ages and abilities active. Everyone learns at their own pace in a fun environment where they can play with other children while also receiving one-to-one guidance and support.
You might be familiar with our sister brand – Swimtastic. Since 2014, we have provided guided swimming courses for all the family, from parent and baby classes right up to adult beginners. Now, over half a decade later, we’re ready to step out of the water and take our unique combination of learning, fun and exercise onto dry land..
We are an independent, family-owned Irish business. We are managed by wife and husband duo Zuzana and Mark Day – along with a loyal team of teachers and administrative staff. We started out in Co. Kildare, growing from Zuzana’s love for exercise, her passion for teaching and her belief that everybody should be able to get active and enjoy themselves.
Both Gymtastic and Swimtastic offer courses in Kildare and Laois. Additionally, you can also swim with Swimtastic in Carlow and Kilkenny.
Prior to founding Gymtastic, Zuzana was a competitive sportsperson and coach. She was first introduced to sports as a baby by her father, starting off with swimming. Taking to the water like the proverbial duck, she progressed to the highest levels in both swimming and triathlon. This culminated in her representing Slovakia at the European Championships.
In 2009, Zuzana came to Ireland to visit her sister and to get some quiet time to complete her dissertation. Despite the rain, she fell in love with the place and the people. Now, we’re all glad to say that over a decade later Zuzana calls Ireland home as a proud Irish-Slovak lady.
Co-founder (and husband) to Zuzana, Mark backs Zuzana’s sporting passion with business experience. Mark, along with the office team, manages the back end, organisational and I.T. side of Gymtastic. He oversees course planning, scheduling, bookings, financial, marketing, I.T. and operational support for all the activities. There’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes before anyone gets moving!
Sinead is our business co-ordinator, which is a fancy way of saying she makes sure things happen at the right time and in the right way. With a lot of swim and gym courses to organise across 5 counties, this keeps Sinead very busy. A native of Dublin, she now lives in Athy and is the proud Mum of 2 football and swim loving children. Coming from a sports mad family, Sinead is also heavily involved in the local Triathlon Club and GAA Club.
Padraig comes to us from Athlone, Co. Westmeath. He's our marketing manager with the important task of letting the world know all about Gymtastic. He studied at Maynooth University and NUI Galway and has experience working with both multinationals and SMEs. In his free time, Padraig is an avid blogger. His specialist subject is Eurovision and he's attended the contest four times. He's already planning trip number five!
Donnagh is a fellow Athy lady and also teaches with Swimtastic. In her spare time, which she has little of, Donnagh works alongside her husband doing some very notable (and mostly unseen) local charity work for the homeless, which we all admire them greatly for. Donnagh is mum to four lovely children who also love sports. It runs in the family. So, combined with Gymtastic, homelife and her volunteer work - she is a very busy lady for sure.
Sharon is the eldest sister of the Day clan and works with us on a part-time basis. She helps to meet and greet new customers. Sharon is also a child-care professional with lots of administrative experience. She has worked with montessori and pre-school children in County Kildare. So, when the busy times come, Sharon is on hand to give us a dig out in the office. She’s mum to Eoin, an avid little swimmer and our in-house Swimtastic Leprechaun expert!
Carol is the middle sister of the Day family. Coming with 15 years of management experience in the retail industry, Carol swapped life in multi-nationals to support us with the operational and administrative side of the business. Carol manages bookings, customer service, office administration and is the point of contact for most of our customers. She’s also our in-house baker. Her weekly baked treats are much appreciated.
Elaine has an extensive background in children’s education and development. She is a great communicator, boasting corporate level experience in PR and customer relations. She is a big sports fan and has participated in competitive swimming, basketball and football – she’s picked up plenty of medals in her time! Elaine loves to be outdoors and is an avid hiker, traversing trails in countless spectacular locations. Elaine is also a teacher with Swimtastic.
